Set against a wooded backdrop, this modern townhome was envisioned as a private retreat for a distinguished psychiatry professional couple entering their empty nester chapter. The renovation honors their intellectual depth and artistic sensibility, layering color, texture, and pattern to evoke emotion and meaning throughout the home.

With the freedom to reimagine their space, two of the three bedrooms were transformed to reflect their lifestyle. One became a luxurious ladies dressing room complete with custom cabinetry, integrated lighting, mirrored panels, and curated display areas for designer pieces, anchored by an intimate seating area for moments of pause. Another was converted into a dramatic work from home office enveloped in dark, metallic, hand painted walls and ceilings, creating a calming, low sensory environment tailored for focus. A lower level gym was also designed to support the homeowner’s passion for body building.

A comprehensive renovation introduced new flooring, fully reimagined baths and powder rooms, custom fireplaces, and elevated architectural details throughout. The original honey toned floors and exposed beams once created a visual heaviness; these were replaced with sophisticated, light toned luxury vinyl planks that brighten the interiors and establish a refined foundation for the layered design.

The living room makes a striking first impression, subtly revealed beyond an open industrial style stairwell. An ombre staircase runner in graduated shades of blue creates movement and artistry as it ascends. To thoughtfully integrate a television and fireplace along a single wall, the design incorporates two navy, charred wood look porcelain columns. Between them, a textured steel grey and black cork look wallcovering frames the wall mounted television. One column features illuminated niches for objects d’art, while the other houses stacked ethanol fireboxes positioned for optimal viewing from multiple vantage points.

Throughout the home, bold material selections reflect the couple’s sophisticated taste and complement their extensive fine art collection. Saturated paint colors and expressive wallpapers were chosen to enhance and create dialogue with the artwork. Designer fabrics, statement furnishings, and sculptural tables add depth and elegance, while layered lighting and multifunctional window treatments balance ambiance with practicality.

The main level powder room is unapologetically dramatic, featuring textured steel grey walls and a floating matte black glass vanity. A striking Patagonia quartzite countertop becomes the focal point against a monochromatic black backdrop of fixtures and accessories.

In the primary bathroom, blue tigerwood look porcelain planks and a luminous Labradorite countertop create a distinctly masculine elegance. As sunlight touches the stone, flashes of iridescence animate the surface. A custom glass shower enclosure and carefully detailed stone elements add architectural intrigue and craftsmanship.

The guest bath offers a softer, spa like retreat with gentle grey and blue tones. Three dimensional wavy porcelain tile above the soaking tub evokes the movement of water, while charred wood look porcelain planks ground the space with warmth and texture.

Upstairs, the primary bedroom serves as a serene sanctuary. A restrained palette and velvet textured wallpaper create an enveloping backdrop for a meticulously appointed bed. A custom designed electric fireplace with water vapor technology introduces the ambiance of flame without fumes, adding both visual warmth and subtle humidification.

Just beyond, a small deck was transformed into an intimate outdoor hideaway. A custom privacy sunshade in specialized UV protective fabric ensures comfort and seclusion, while an ethanol fireplace extends the space’s usability and atmosphere.

The lower level balances wellness and versatility, incorporating a dedicated cardio area, lounge seating for recovery, and a custom metal patina barn door to provide privacy when the space functions as a guest retreat. An adjacent garage was reimagined as a fully equipped weightlifting gym, reflecting the homeowners’ commitment to strength and vitality.
